Abstract
From the year 2009, in the Republic of Serbia the legislation on recognition
and protection of plant varieties has been largely harmonized with relevant
international legislation, especially with the EU legislation. Namely, two laws, the
main international conventions in this field, as well as several by-laws were
adopted in the period. In this way, conditions, testing and treatment for the
recognition of the variety, entry in the register of varieties of agricultural plants,
maintenance of the variety, and the establishment of special commission for the
recognition of varieties were regulated in accordance with the international
standards. Also, in the frame of protection of breeder's rights, the conditions,
manner and procedure for the protection of breeder′s rights of plant varieties, as
well as registration in the appropriate registers, were harmonized with relevant
international legislation.
