Women’s Contributions to the Workforce: Are New Measures Needed?

Traditionally, the penetration of women into the workforce has been measured by comparing the percentage by work category of women versus men or by comparing their mean or median incomes. This paper reviews current indicators that quantify gender-related differences and suggests the need for additional measures to determine why these differences exist.
