Abstract
The aim of the article was to assess the interdependence between the functional type and the level of
financial self-sufficiency of rural communes of the Wielkopolska province in 2013. The study drew on data from
the Polish Central Statistical Office. It was shown that the level of financial self-sufficiency of rural communes
depends on their functional structure – low level is typical for rural communes of largely agricultural type
away from large urban centers, while high level financial self-sufficiency characterizes communes adjacent
to the city of Poznan and representing the residential and commercial type.
