Abstract
The paper raises the problem of the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in Podlaskie region. The first case
of ASF was recorded in mid-February 201 and by the end of June 2015 recorded 111 cases of the disease in
wild pigs and three places in the case of swine. The spread of the disease contributed to the initial drastically
reduce hunting. Delayed action taken depopulation is not producing results and a significant part of the
cost of combating the disease among wild pigs was transferred to the hunters. Bioassurance actions taken
in farms are radical in nature and largely increase production costs. Moreover, almost half the population
of pigs in the area covered bioassurance will be subject to liquidation and the vast majority of farmers do
not receive compensation under this head. Although the action taken, implemented mainly at the expense of
farmers, halt the spread of cases of ASF in farms is the lack of adequate measures in case of wild pigs, does
not bring the epidemic restrictions which may result in the spread of the epidemic on a larger area and can
endanger the pig farms throughout the country.
