Abstract
This report evaluates the potential for agricultural imports by Iraq since the end of the Iraqi War. Income
elasticities for protein and calorie consumption are estimated and potential demand for cereal grains and
livestock are calculated. Income for post war Iraq should return to levels which were obtained in the late
1980s, before the Gulf War and the U.N. trade sanctions. The United States was a major supplier of
commodities in the 1980s, and the potential exists for imports to increase in future years.
