Abstract

The example of cotton-producing households in Burkina Faso is used to investigate (1) how price-shifting macroeconomic adjustment policies affect the balance of bargaining power between spouses in West African households and (2) how the balance of power itself mediates the impact of policies on households' production, income, and welfare.
