Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the level and productivity changes in the food industry against the
background of manufacturing in Poland in the years 1995-2012. It used a Cobb-Douglas production and
productivity indicators. It was found that the pace of change of productivity in the food industry was slightly
worse compared to manufacturing. Throughout the reporting period, labour productivity in manufacturing
grew by 97.8% (average 4.1%), while in the food industry with 58.0% (average 2.7%). While capital
productivity in manufacturing has decreased by 9.2%, (average 0.6%) and the food industry with 16.5%
(average 1.1%).
