Abstract
The paper elaborates on the issues of social entrepreneurship. Discusses the main trends definitional
concepts of social economy „and” social enterprise. The second part includes an analysis of selected forms of
social enterprises operating in rural areas – social cooperatives, organizations and associations and thematic
villages. The Polish countryside is dominated by social cooperatives and foundations and associations. The
new form which requires further development are thematic villages.
