Abstract
This paper attempts to assess the degree of preparation of fruit and vegetable producers to implement
principles of integrated pest management from 1 January 2004. For this purpose, previous activities in the
field of legislation and agricultural practice for minimizing the negative effects of chemical plant protection
have been analyzed, including the implementation of organic and integrated production, as well as GlobalGap.
Through empirical study the main determinants and barriers of these systems implementation on the example
of the IP were identified, as well. It has been shown that the horticultural sector is not sufficiently prepared
for the use of integrated pest management.
