Abstract

RIN prices have recently soared. This article discusses the underlying factors in the U.S. ethanol sector that have led to this increase. The E10 blend wall and the looming shortage of RINs for compliance with the federal Renewable Fuel Standard are pushing prices for RINs higher. Implications for corn used to produce ethanol are for future increased to be limited. Compliance with the RFS will soon become difficult.
