Abstract

The changes in the worldwide competitive scenario have posed difficulties to the survival of companies, forcing them to establish necessary cooperative relations for maintenance and survival in the markets. However, the lack of coordination and cooperation is considered a classic problem in the beef chain. Taking these assumptions into account, the purpose of the present article is to verify how the organizational network CITE 120, established by a group of beef producers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS), has addressed the environmental demands in the meat production sector and how the systemic relationships for the strengthening of the network’s interests are being promoted and organized. For the purpose of this research in-depth interviews were carried out with members of the network. The results reinforce the remarkable importance for the partners of this type of organizational format, mainly regarding the dissemination of knowledge, organization of learning, raising of competitive advantages in the purchase of inputs, equipments and machines, as well as in the commercialization of beef at more competitive prices. These factors can provide the long-term and medium-term sustainability of the business.
