We use a production frontier function and a non-monotonic inefficiency effects model which incorporates the influences of exogenous variables on the mean and the variances of farm efficiency. We formulate policy variables (e.g. the direct subsidies) and farm characteristics as explanatory variables in the inefficiency effects model. We use the 1995-2004 FADN data to estimate the production frontier, to derive technical efficiency, and to determine the effects of the explanatory variables. The study shows that the 10-year average technical efficiency of olive farms is 69%. Direct transfers have a negative and monotonic effect on technical efficiency, while the degree of specialization has a non-monotonic effect on technical efficiency. 000043612 546__ $$aEnglish 000043612 650__ $$aAgricultural and Food Policy 000043612 650__ $$aCrop Production/Industries 000043612 6531_ $$atechnical efficiency 000043612 6531_ $$athe CAP reform 000043612 6531_ $$anon-monotonic inefficiency effects 000043612 6531_ $$aproduction frontier 000043612 6531_ $$aolive-farming 000043612 700__ $$aZhu, Xueqin 000043612 700__ $$aKaragiannis, Giannis 000043612 700__ $$aOude Lansink, Alfons G.J.M. 000043612 8564_ $$91f0b53ca-a6f2-4680-b6f1-ba3c11f7f099$$s105455$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/43612/files/057.pdf 000043612 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/43612 000043612 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:43612$$pGLOBAL_SET 000043612 912__ $$nSubmitted by Kristy Mussman (mussm003@umn.edu) on 2008-09-26T19:41:25Z No. of bitstreams: 1 057.pdf: 105455 bytes, checksum: 8e2933dc1158c20e92348aabfe65b43f (MD5) 000043612 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2008-09-26T19:41:26Z (GMT).
