The Paraquat Watch Nigeria Project (PWNP) is a national scientific surveillance programme initiated by the Agrocentric Creativity Initiative Platform for Agricultural Awareness Amongst Youths (ACIPAAY) to evaluate the post-ban presence of paraquat products in Nigerian markets. Paraquat, also known as methyl viologen, is a highly toxic, contact, non-selective herbicide used to control weeds. The Paraquat Watch Nigeria 2026 Report reveals the continued presence and distribution of paraquat-based herbicides in Nigeria between May and June 2026 despite the commencement of the country's total ban, enforcement actions on paraquat, and the subsequent Regulatory Directive stipulating the ban on the manufacture, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale, and use of paraquat as a herbicide. Utilization of the findings of this study to support the complete elimination of paraquat herbicides in Nigeria is recommended alongside other recommendations presented in this report.
