Global environmental concerns, efficient farming and the need to increase income of livestock farms pose a growing challenge to the application of data-based decision support systems. The Agriculture 4.0 and Industry 4.0 revolutions are generating a wealth of production data, and policies are also supporting the spread of smart systems. It will become increasingly important for farmers to monitor and use their production-related data. However, some factors, such as the lack of legal regulation of data ownership and the limitations of artificial intelligence, pose challenges. The effectiveness of decision support based on computer information systems is affected by the fact that human decisions often depend on current circumstances. Return on investment is also an important factor, but not enough time has passed since the introduction of various technologies for their impact on production efficiency to be accurately assessed. Based on early implementation data, smart systems that provide automation, e.g., in cattle farming, can result in productivity increases of up to 19–32%, over 80% labor time savings, and a 22% reduction in environmental impact. Farmers trust in the effectiveness of the technology, but the infrastructure conditions are not always available, as supported by international and domestic research. Data loss and maintenance difficulties due to fluctuations in internet access make it difficult to accept smart technologies, and monitoring and interpreting production data is still a problem and requires employee training. However, the application of smart devices and artificial intelligence enables more efficient and sustainable animal husbandry, in which process the role of those farmers who contribute greatly to the development of models by introducing technology and ensuring the availability of data is outstanding.
