Excerpts: This publication brings together for the first time all of the official estimates of the Crop Reporting Board relating to sugar beets from 1909 through 1952. Although sugar beets have been grown successfully since about 1889, the official estimates do not begin until 1909. The following tables bring together all of the official estimates of acreage of sugar beets, yield per acre, production, prices received by growers, and value of production by States and for the United States for each year on record from 1909 through 1952. Estimates are not shown by States prior to 1924 since the data, as collected, applied to the State where the sugar beets were processed rather than the State where the sugar beets were grown. Consequently, estimates for 1909-1923 are shown only for the United States.
