Introduction: One problem in doing research on foreign countries is the general lack of awareness of what studies are available on the subject being investigated. In the case of Communist countries, inaccessibility is a major barrier to good research. Japanese journals, on the other hand, are readily available to the western scholar. Only a small amount of work however, has been translated into English, much at the discretion of the Japanese themselves. Because of the high cost of translation, it seems best to first identify what is available, then to selectively have translated those papers which would most benefit the researcher. This report is a listing of over nine hundred Japanese studies in the field of Agricultural Economics. The grouping of studies under selected topics is somewhat arbitrary and done in many cases with a minimum amount of translation from Japanese to English. Some studies are listed under several headings, and most were published since 1965. Many of the studies listed in this report were collected from various Government Agencies and research institutions in Japan and turned over to the USDA's National Agricultural Library at Beltsville, Maryland.
