1980-1996 Since the early 1980s, India has been self sufficient in cereals thanks to the Green Revolution initiated fifteen years earlier and to the public support it received. This paper characterizes the established situation and examines how it has evolved by using the Surplus Accounting Method which measures the formation and the distribution of productivity gains in the agricultural sector.
