Due to the constant decrease in the number of farms and to the insufficient number of descendents of farmers likely to get started on a farm, settlement outside of the family structure is encouraged. Using monographical cases studies the present article aims at understanding the motives of these "new farmers", at presenting the specific hardships they have to go through in term of work as well as in term of access to property and at analyzing the strategies they develop to overcome these difficulties.
