Local elections are a good field of research to study rural dwellers ' behaviour. Small cities, less than 3 500 inhabitants, may be isolated. The poll is not the same than for great towns. They represent 40 % of the electors and 45 % of the voters. For the previous elections, in 1983 and 1989, the lists baptized "others" were chosen by about 20 % of the voters. They dropped to less than 1 %. In 1995, the Home Secretary hoped the proximity of the presidential election would favour the current majority. In fact, it has only "politized" the attitude of the candidates. "Right" and "Left" are more important, secondary forces do not meet with success.
