In France, soil erosion on agricultural land occurs in regions with steep slopes as well as on fairly flat regions, like in Paris Basin. Ecological and socio-economical consequences are the soil loss, water pollution due to suspended sediments and chemicals associated, muddy floods in valley bottoms ; many of these valley bottoms were recently urbanized. The authors stress the need to a management of the renewable resources, based on the way the landscapes works.
