The principal distinguishing features of rural youth (25 % of the total youth population) are due to the overwhelming presence of farming and working classes. It is noticable, however, that new lifestyles are less widespread and that rural workers are moving further away from the Left than urban workers. The attachment to rural life (54 % of rural youth, but only 36 % of students) or to the village (23 %) is nevertheless relative and condition- ned by a preference for the larger parishes and proximity to towns.
