This study presents the analysis of a rural carpenter's workload. A craftsman must display many complex mental strategies in order to organize his short or middle-dated occupations. The analysis of his activity confirms this assumption by showing a slipping of his woodwork to administration and organization tasks. In this case, a craftsman is, first and foremost a manager. Therefore, his mental activity of planning is the salient feature of his workload, thus questionning the social image of craftindustry.
