In the struggle against farmers leaving the countryside, certain services, in particular transport, must be maintained. The car is the easiest way of connecting up isolated farms. But petrol is expensive... A solution uniting the advantages of private cars (time-table, proximity) and the bus (low cost, transport of non- car-owners) was worked out. Studies were carried out and their results implemented, — finance, choice of transporter — leading to the Monts de Lacaune minicar. This, as yet short-lived, experiment shows that such an operation can be set up at minimum cost and with little capital invested. Its success depends on its being adapted to the needs of the inhabitants and its attraction for its users.
