The recent drought in the Sahelian countries struck a rural world that had been in difficulty for many years. An economic policy lacking both determination and resources has jeopardized agricultural development in the Sahelian countries. In view of the population increase the continuation of past methods would lead to an : ecological, economic and social catastrophe. The solutions are to be sought in increased agricultural production, improved conditions of rural life and the active role the international community.
