Excerpt: Feed grains are among the most important agricultural commodities the world produces, comprising almost 50 percent of total grain production and consumption. Feed grains—corn, barley, sorghum, oats, and millet—are planted on close to one half of all land planted to grain. Production and consumption have increased almost every year since 1960, with global production projected to reach 816 million metric tons in 1985/86.
