Abstract
Excerpts from the Executive Summary: The Near East (NE) countries of Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia are well suited for horticultural production and are close to affluent markets in Western Europe. However, the EC is generally well-supplied with produce and offers only modest opportunities for increased NE horticultural exports. In addition to considering the few market windows available for NE produce, the NE countries may want to closely examine export potential in the Gulf States. Some horticultural exports from the NE compete with U.S. exports in the EC market, but they are expected to continue to have a minimal impact on U.S. exports. A number of ongoing public and private projects in the NE countries will likely increase their potential to export horticultural commodities.
