abstract = {Excerpts from the report: This report presents revised farm-food market basket statistics, also known as farm-retail spreads. The February 1965 issue of the Marketing and Transportation Situation published revised annual data for 1963. This publication includes those data, statistics for 1964, and revised data for earlier years. Differences from the earlier series arise mainly from changes in the products in the market basket, in weights assigned to individual products, in retail prices, and in methods and data used in calculating farm values. These statistics were revised because a consumer expenditures survey conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in 1960-61 provided data from which to calculate more recent weights for the products in the market basket. The weights formerly used were representative of food purchases in the early 1950’s. Further, the BLS has made changes in the list of foods it prices and in the group of cities in which it collects prices.},
