Abstract
Excerpts from the report: The Erie-Niagara Basin is located in Western New York State and encompasses all of Erie County except Grand Island and portions of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, and Wyoming Counties. There are 1,266,000 acres (1,975 square miles) of land in the Basin. This represents approximately four percent of the total state area. All water courses are tributary to Lake Erie and the Niagara River. The primary objective of the U. S. Department of Agriculture’s participation in the Erie-Niagara Basin is to facilitate the coordination and orderly conservation, development, utilization and management of water and related land resources. This report represents the United States Department of Agriculture’s contribution of information for the formulation of a comprehensive plan for the land and related water resources of the Basin. This information was developed by the Economic Research Service, Forest Service, and Soil Conservation Service.
