Abstract

Excerpts from the report: The farming community of Johnson Creek, Wis., needed a more efficient and dependable livestock marketing service. Livestock leaders and stockmen felt that a market to bring livestock producers and buyers together would increase their income. This is the story of the development of such a market by the Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association, Milwaukee, a statewide marketing organization that has served Wisconsin stockmen since 1922. The purpose of this report is to give a step-by-step description and analysis of the building of this livestock market from the time the idea was born in the minds of livestock leaders and farmers in the area until the Equity Co-op Livestock Auction was opened for business.
