Excerpt from the report Preface: This report discusses results of research conducted to investigate the performance of the three basic types of continuous grain dryers—concurrent-flow, crossflow, and counterflow—and develops and illustrates methods of obtaining optimum dryer designs and operating conditions. The three dryer designs are compared largely on the basis of mathematical simulation and computer analysis. Only the analysis of the concurrent-flow process was verified by laboratory testing. The report is intended for the use of engineers, designers, manufacturers, and others concerned with heated-air drying of grain.
