Abstract
Regional cooperatives increased the volume of grain handled in 1978, and again in 1979, to reach a total of 2.5 billion bushels--up from 1.8 billion bushels in 1977. Total storage capacity of their subterminals and terminals rose to 464 million bushels. Corn, at 969 million bushels, ranked as the leading grain handled by the 20 regional grain cooperatives. Major facility improvements and increased farm grain sales were two contributors to the growth. The 20 major regional grain cooperatives in this study marketed 98 percent of total grain volume (excluding rice and edible beans) of all regional cooperatives.
