Abstract
Excerpt from the report Foreword: Investigations concerning types of farming have brought into focus a strong tendency toward regional specialization of different kinds of farming in the United States. The understanding and closer definition of this specialization, and of the organization and practices on farms that have similar characteristics, have greatly facilitated the development of regional and local agricultural programs. Investigations of this kind have made possible a more practical orientation of research relating to management problems and needed adjustments on individual farms. The map of types of farming in this publication is a revision of and supersedes the map, "Regionalized Types of Farming in the United States," issued in March 1935, by the United States Department of Agriculture.
