The city is a social community that has its own social structure. Therefore, the city has always been the hearth innovation, change, social rebellion, sour leaven in the life of the whole country. The city became the scene of many social changes. The city of Nis, used industrial and commercial center of the region, shares the fate of most cities with similar structure of the economy and population, also making the area (intersection) in which the gain (“cut”), all roads, as they are from east to west, and they South to North. It is just the intersection, from which the traveler, whether benevolent or not, made it to all four corners of the world, the predetermined fate of Nis. Therefore, it is recognized as the Nis traffic center of the Balkans as a geographical core of the Balkan Peninsula. Nis during the second half of the 20th century established as a regional and macroeconomic center of your surroundings. The town itself was formed in the spatial vacuum gravity of large metropolitan centers of Belgrade, Sofia and Skopje. Spatial-economic and demographic development is characterized by strong Nis changes in their immediate environment. Stagnation and recession in the development of the city, as a consequence of socio-economic changes in the 90’s, has its spatial-demographic reflection. Therefore the basic aim of this study should show the spatial distribution of population in the area of Nis and the territories under its direct administrative authority.
