In an artefactual marketplace selling oysters, only 1.2% participants scanned the QR code labels with their own devices. However, providing free access to a QR-scanning smartphone induced 52.6% of participants to access labeling information—a large improvement even compared to when this information was provided directly on the package. Furthermore, consumers’ responses to the additional information were similar regardless of how the information was delivered. 000287977 546__ $$aEnglish 000287977 650__ $$aAgricultural and Food Policy 000287977 650__ $$aFood Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety 000287977 650__ $$aInstitutional and Behavioral Economics 000287977 6531_ $$aconsumer preferences 000287977 6531_ $$adistance from information 000287977 6531_ $$afield experiments 000287977 6531_ $$aoysters 000287977 6531_ $$afood labeling 000287977 6531_ $$aQR code reading 000287977 700__ $$aLi, Tongzhe 000287977 700__ $$aMesser, Kent D. 000287977 773__ $$j44$$k2$$q311$$o327$$tJournal of Agricultural and Resource Economics 000287977 8560_ $$flle@umn.edu 000287977 8564_ $$9565d02e1-1252-4291-9fe0-2b245084c164$$s272228$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/287977/files/JARE%2C44.2%2CMay2019%2C%235%2CLi%2C311-327.pdf 000287977 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:287977$$pGLOBAL_SET 000287977 913__ $$aBy depositing this Content ('Content') in AgEcon Search, I agree that I am solely responsible for any consequences of uploading this Content to AgEcon Search and making it publicly available, and I represent and warrant that: I am either the sole creator and the owner of the copyrights and all other rights in the Content; or, without obtaining another’s permission, I have the right to deposit the Content in an archive such as AgEcon Search.
