Abstract
Food security has improved in the EU, but there are many challenges to the European food system: unbalanced patterns of food intake lead to undernutrition and overweight, a growing number of people relies on food banks and is deprived of a supply of nutritious products, and food production methods are overstepping the safe boundaries of the natural environment. Innovative stakeholder visions for European food and nutrition security (FNS) call for an EU food system that delivers on goals in the areas of health, equity, environment and economy, supported by responsible and open research and innovation.
