The Contribution of Research and Extension to Agricultural Productivity Growth

The rate of return to public expenditures on research and extension aimed at increasing productivity at the farm level was estimated to be 22 percent for the 1939-72 period. It declined over time, from 25 percent for the 1939-48 period to 19. 5 percent for the 1969'" 72 period.
