Abstract
A field experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) to. evaluate the agro-economic productivity of three-crop systems with the inclusion of short duration crops, potato, mustard and edible poded pea in the wet-dry transition period of T. aman- Fallow- Boro cropping system in the irrigated ecosystem during 1998 to 2000. The gross margins of the improved three-crop patterns, Aman rice (BRRIdhan3 0-Potato-Borg rice (BRRIdhan29) and Aman rice (BRRIdhan31)-Edible poded pea-Boro rice (BRRIdhan29) were 132 and 52% higher over the checked pattern of Aman rice (BRRIdhan31):-Fallow-Boro rice (BRRIdhan29), respectively. The gross margin of the earlier pattern was also 51% higher than Aman rice (BRRIdhan31)-Pea (Edible poded)-Boro rice (BRRIdhan29) three-crop. systerris. These two cropping patterns have been found agro-economically profitable which might be validated in farmers' fields for large scale adoption.
