Abstract
This study evaluates the trends of agricultural production of Puerto Rico from 1954-55 until 1994-1995. It analyzes the (rends of local production and its relation with events, agreements and regulations that ocurretl during this period in Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and the United Stales. Crops in which there has been free commerce with the Caribbean, Central America and the U.S. will be discussed. Under this category arc located most of the agriculture enterprises. The pattern of production of crops protected by local regulations will also be analyzed. Wc will evaluate the efTccls of the closing of the Cuban economy and traditional Puerton ican crops. Using as a base the information gathered and analyzed in light of global initiatives, recommendations will be made on areas with potential for the development of agriculture production of Puerto Rico.
