Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the motives of starting a business on the Lublin catering and
accommodation services market and entry barriers undertaken by enterprises providing catering and
accommodation services on the basis of studies carried out in years 2007 and 2013. The time has caused a
reevaluation of motivators. The largest importance gained the economic motives associated with the desire
to improve the material being of entrepreneurs. The owners of points and catering establishments and
accommodation facilities during starting a business faced and still face barriers arising from the macroenvironment
of their businesses. It has been changing, however, the strength of their influence, which proves
that the environment is turbulent.
