Abstract

A sample survey was conducted in two villages in the district of Mymensingh with the objective of identifying the major causes and effects of land transfer. The major findings are that the trend of distress sales of land, mainly crop land has been increasing and that large farmers and businessmen are buying land. A significant proportion of sellers have become completely landless within a few years, some became tenants, some lost their draft animals as well and most sellers have too many people in the family to work on too little land left after selling.
