To address the endogenous and binary nature of the household's credit constraints status, we employ a treatment-effects model to consistently estimate the effect of credit constraints. Results reveal that after effectively correcting for endogeneity, credit constraints have a negative and significant effect on the amount of land allocated to hybrid maize. Results also show that farmers with larger land holdings allocate more land to hybrid maize. Although less likely to report credit constraints, older farmers allocate less land to hybrid maize than younger farmers. These findings suggest that there is scope for increasing the cultivation of hybrid maize in Malawi if credit is targeted at younger farmers that are credit-constrained. 000207797 650__ $$aCrop Production/Industries 000207797 6531_ $$acredit constraints 000207797 6531_ $$ahybrid maize 000207797 6531_ $$aadoption 000207797 6531_ $$atreatment-effect 000207797 6531_ $$aendogenous 000207797 6531_ $$aMalawi 000207797 700__ $$aSimtowe, Franklin 000207797 700__ $$aZeller, Manfred 000207797 700__ $$aDiagne, Aliou 000207797 773__ $$q5$$o22$$tReview of Agricultural and Environmental Studies - Revue d'Etudes en Agriculture et Environnement (RAEStud)$$j90$$k01 000207797 773__ $$dMarch 2009 000207797 8564_ $$97936009e-736d-479e-bec6-c4241c0166df$$s2338586$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/207797/files/RAEStud-90-1-5-22.pdf 000207797 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/207797 000207797 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:207797$$pGLOBAL_SET 000207797 912__ $$nSubmitted by Laure Latruffe (raestud@rennes.inra.fr) on 2015-08-14T09:47:32Z No. of bitstreams: 1 RAEStud-90-1-5-22.pdf: 2338586 bytes, checksum: f5135d9801acc3817b7f08375417a6de (MD5) 000207797 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2015-08-14T09:47:33Z (GMT).
