Abstract
The paper presents a comparison of the costs of apples plant protection in conventional and organic
cultivation carried out on thirteen apples growing farms in Poland. The differences in the input of materials,
labour and machinery were studied in two provinces: Mazovia, Lubelskie and Łódzkie in the period 2009-
2013. The costs of plant protection on the surface of 1 ha of orchard were lower in organic farming. Due to
the lower yields plant protection in conventional orchards was cheaper per 1 kg of fruit. Organic production
of apples was characterized by higher labour costs directly on plant protection treatments. In the analysed
period greater plant protection costs growth was noted in the organic than in conventional production.
