abstract = {Knowledge about the regional disparities in the development of different sectors is an issue of considerable importance for administrators, planners and policy makers of any country. In this study an attempt has been made to evaluate the regional disparities in the development of the agricultural sector of Bangladesh through computing composite indices and relevant statistics for different districts based on secondary data. It is observed that out of 21 former districts of Bangladesh, the district of Chittagong ranked the first and the district Bandarban ranked the last in agricultural development during 1980-81 while Sylhet ranked first and Bandarban continued to occupy the last position during 1990-91. It is also observed that the level of development in 10 districts, out of 21 districts moved down during 1980-91. Significant change in development has also been observed over the two time periods.},
