It evaluates the economic dynamics implied by a storage firm under alternative market structures. This includes perfect competition as well as imperfect competition under Cournot behavior. The conceptual analysis is used to specify and estimate a model of storage behavior, with an econometric application to the US American cheese market. The empirical results provide statistical evidence of non-competitive storage behavior. They show that the exercise of market power contributes to reduced stock fluctuations and increased price instability in the US cheese market. 000201527 650__ $$aFood Security and Poverty 000201527 650__ $$aResearch and Development/Tech Change/Emerging Technologies 000201527 650__ $$aResearch Methods/Statistical Methods 000201527 700__ $$aChavas, Jean-Paul 000201527 8564_ $$9d804287e-918c-4263-8c29-9693374d562c$$s220456$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/201527/files/WP2006-04.pdf 000201527 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/201527 000201527 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:201527$$pGLOBAL_SET 000201527 912__ $$nSubmitted by Abigail Porter (porte542@umn.edu) on 2015-04-13T18:21:35Z No. of bitstreams: 1 WP2006-04.pdf: 220456 bytes, checksum: 01fd63c7d508e3b477fa58654af202c9 (MD5) 000201527 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2015-04-13T18:21:35Z (GMT).
