We find potentially substantial net benefits with indirect benefits accounting for about two-fifths of total benefits. Due to these indirect benefits, the cutoff at which lower fertilizer yield response rates lead to net program losses is much lower than the value suggested by existing partial equilibrium evaluations. Benefits decline with domestic financing and real fertilizer prices increases. Abstracting from extreme events, Malawi’s program potentially generates double-dividends through higher and more drought-resilient yields. Overall, our results buttress arguments for patience and a focus on program efficiency improvements. 000169903 546__ $$aEnglish 000169903 650__ $$aAgricultural and Food Policy 000169903 650__ $$aCrop Production/Industries 000169903 650__ $$aInternational Development 000169903 650__ $$aPublic Economics 000169903 6531_ $$aProgram evaluation 000169903 6531_ $$arisk assessment 000169903 6531_ $$aeconomywide model 000169903 6531_ $$afarm subsidies 000169903 6531_ $$aMalawi. 000169903 700__ $$aArndt, Channing 000169903 700__ $$aPauw, Karl 000169903 700__ $$aThurlow, James 000169903 773__ $$d2014 000169903 8564_ $$9c8a1af29-def3-46c8-b9c9-618359df5e0f$$s558269$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/169903/files/Malawi-AAEA-Submit.pdf 000169903 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/169903 000169903 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:169903$$pGLOBAL_SET 000169903 912__ $$nSubmitted by Channing Arndt (channingarndt@gmail.com) on 2014-05-27T15:03:27Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Malawi-AAEA-Submit.pdf: 558269 bytes, checksum: 65564ca2f06effaf2700502563f2efd2 (MD5) 000169903 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2014-05-27T15:03:27Z (GMT).
