We investigate the cross-effect of self-employment and change in Chinese imports on US county labor markets during 2000-2007. Our empirical results suggest that counties with higher self-employment experience smaller job losses and wage cuts in response to Chinese imports. That suggests self-employment or entrepreneurship activities in local economies mitigate adverse impacts of trade penetration. 000169709 546__ $$aEnglish 000169709 650__ $$aCommunity/Rural/Urban Development 000169709 650__ $$aInternational Relations/Trade 000169709 6531_ $$aself employment 000169709 6531_ $$atrade shocks 000169709 6531_ $$alabor market 000169709 6531_ $$aChinese import 000169709 700__ $$aLiang, Jiaochen 000169709 700__ $$aGoetz, Stephan 000169709 773__ $$d2014 000169709 8564_ $$942ded72a-0421-46cb-9e29-c5b6fe1781ab$$s900014$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/169709/files/Liang%20and%20Goetz_AAEA.pdf 000169709 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/169709 000169709 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:169709$$pGLOBAL_SET 000169709 912__ $$nSubmitted by Jiaochen Liang (jiaochen.psu@gmail.com) on 2014-05-23T17:34:17Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Liang and Goetz_AAEA.pdf: 900014 bytes, checksum: c160c4595b36ec304331aa45e723b337 (MD5) 000169709 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2014-05-23T17:34:17Z (GMT).
