Thank you for inviting me to speak to your conference. Given that the standard definition of an expert is someone who is more than a hundred miles from home I qualify as an expert on the western Canadian dairy industry. The conference organizing committee gave me as a working title, “Who Benefits From Regulated Milk Prices.” As I thought about this topic I decided to flip the topic. Today I am going to speak to you about who would benefit from deregulated milk prices. Everyone seems to know who benefits from regulated milk prices. The real question as we go forward in the near future is whether or not the Canadian milk system will be deregulated and who in fact would benefit from such a move.
