      abstract = {This paper examines the development of animal health  information systems at the farm, national and international  level, with examples of some systems that have been  developed. Methods for the assessment of animal health  information systems are then examined. This is followed by  an outline of the national animal health information system  (NARIS) currently being developed in Australia, with  special emphasis on the system of Structured Animal Health  Surveillance (SAHS) being set up in Central Queensland.},
