Using a unique firm-level panel data set for about 20,000 agricultural producers in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), we estimate the impact of food price shocks on small- and medium-sized individual farms (IF) and large corporate farms (CF). Our empirical findings suggest that, in relative terms, the rising food prices might reduce the output, productivity, and profit of individual farms compared to large corporate farms. Simulation results show that, depending on the relative price changes in input and output markets, the output response of individual farms is between 6% and 18% lower than the output response of corporate farms. 000163912 546__ $$aEnglish 000163912 650__ $$aDemand and Price Analysis 000163912 650__ $$aFood Consumption/Nutrition/Food Safety 000163912 650__ $$aProduction Economics 000163912 6531_ $$amarket imperfections 000163912 6531_ $$acredit constraint 000163912 6531_ $$afood price shock 000163912 6531_ $$afood policy 000163912 6531_ $$aheterogeneous firms 000163912 6531_ $$aindividual farms 000163912 6531_ $$acorporate farms 000163912 6531_ $$aCEE 000163912 700__ $$aCiaian, Pavel 000163912 700__ $$aKancs, d'Artis 000163912 773__ $$q49$$o72$$tJournal of Rural Cooperation$$j39$$k01$$d2011 000163912 8564_ $$9924c581b-aab3-42a2-b7dd-d25546816caf$$s295952$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/163912/files/Ciaian%20jrc39-1_2011_.pdf 000163912 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/163912 000163912 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:163912$$pGLOBAL_SET 000163912 912__ $$nSubmitted by Elizabeth Hilber (hilb0033@umn.edu) on 2014-02-13T20:13:34Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Ciaian jrc39-1(2011).pdf: 295952 bytes, checksum: 83680615f521072c4824c19d31182627 (MD5) 000163912 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2014-02-13T20:13:34Z (GMT).
