Average weekly total food expenditures rose from $21.55 per person in 1982 to $22.55 in 1984. Weekly spending per person for food consumed at home increased from $14.08 to $14.52 and from $7.48 to $8.03 for food consumed away from home. This report presents information on weekly food expenditures per person and the percentage of households that purchased specific food items during a week. Tabulations are presented for 133 food categories by 10 household socioeconomic characteristics for calendar years 1982, 1983, and 1984. The data are from the '~ 1982-84 Continuing Consumer Expenditure Survey prepared by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor.
